programmable 880T salt spray chamber
A paint or coating is only as good as its ability to stop rust from creeping underneath it. The Flexitest programmable salt spray chamber (models 880/T, 881/T and 882/T) gives paint manufacturers, powder coaters, electroplaters and QC labs a controlled, repeatable salt fog environment to prove that performance before a product reaches the customer.
Use it to run neutral salt spray (NSS), acetic acid (AASS) and copper-accelerated (CASS) tests on painted panels, primers, powder coats, zinc and nickel-chrome plating, and anodised finishes. Blistering, scribe creep, undercutting and loss of adhesion show up in hours or days instead of years of outdoor exposure.
The chamber is built with a titanium inner cabinet, PID-controlled air heating and a peristaltic pump spray system. That combination keeps temperature and fog fall-out steady for long test cycles, so your results match the standard and hold up in customer and third-party audits.

Features
- Tests to paint and coating standards: ASTM B117, ISO 9227, ISO 7253 (paints and varnishes, neutral salt spray), ASTM B368 (CASS), ASTM B380 (Corrodkote), ASTM G85, ASTM D1735 (water fog) and DIN 50021.
- Stable, uniform temperature: Working room from RT+5 °C to 55 °C, uniformity ≤ ±2 °C and stability ≤ ±0.5 °C, controlled by PID air heating so the salt solution’s concentration and pH stay unaffected.
- Consistent fog fall-out: An external large-capacity tank feeds the nozzle through an adjustable peristaltic pump, avoiding the nozzle crystallisation common in siphon systems and keeping the collection rate on target.
- Panel rack set at the correct angle: Three-level rack with corrosion-resistant rods and V-shaped glass-fibre brackets holds test panels at 20° ± 5°, as coating standards require. A mesh plate handles larger parts; the rack carries more than 200 kg.
- Long test cycles, fully programmable: TEMI 880 7-inch touch-screen controller with program, fixed-value and timed start/stop modes. Continuous fog up to 999.9 hours; interval fog up to 99 h 59 min spray and 99 h 59 min pause.
- Condensation kept off your panels: The inclined cover stops drips from falling on samples and spoiling a test, and a silicone gasket prevents corrosive gas leakage.
- Traceable data for audits: Battery-backed memory logs set values, readings and time for up to 360 days (at a 2-minute sampling interval). Export programs and data by USB, or connect up to 16 chambers over RS232.
- Built to last in a corrosive environment: Titanium inner chamber, painted steel outer body, air-cylinder operated lid and fully separated water and electrical sections.
FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – Permeability Testing Instruments
Which standard should I use for salt spray testing of paints?
ASTM B117 and ISO 9227 are the most widely specified. ISO 7253 is written specifically for paints and varnishes. Your customer’s specification usually names the standard and the required hours.
How many hours of salt spray testing does a paint system need?
It depends on the coating and end use. Primers are often tested for 96–240 hours, while industrial and automotive paint systems are commonly specified at 500–1,000 hours or more. The chamber runs continuous tests up to 999.9 hours.
Can I test powder coatings and electroplated finishes in the same chamber?
Yes. The chamber supports NSS, AASS and CASS test conditions, covering powder coating, liquid paint, zinc, nickel and decorative chrome plating.
Why is the panel angle important in salt spray testing?
Standards require panels to sit at a set angle to the vertical so fog settles evenly. The Flexitest rack holds panels at 20° ± 5° using V-shaped glass-fibre brackets.
Do you supply and support salt spray chambers across India?
Yes. Flexitest is based in Kurla, Mumbai, and supplies salt spray chambers to paint and coating manufacturers across India. Contact us at +91 93263 25135 or sales@flexitest.in for a quotation.
