programmable 880T salt spray chamber
Road salt, coastal humidity and monsoon splash attack every metal part on a vehicle. OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers therefore demand salt spray test reports before approving fasteners, brake parts, chassis components, body panels, trims and electrical connectors. The Flexitest programmable salt spray chamber (models 880/T, 881/T and 882/T) lets you produce those reports in-house, on your schedule.
The chamber runs neutral salt spray, CASS and modified cyclic salt fog tests to ASTM B117, ASTM B368, ASTM G85 and ISO 9227. Test zinc and zinc-nickel plated fasteners, e-coated and painted body parts, decorative chrome trims and anodised aluminium components to the hour count written into your PPAP or customer drawing.

Features
- Covers automotive corrosion standards: ASTM B117 (NSS), ASTM B368 (CASS for decorative chrome and nickel plating), ASTM G85 (modified and cyclic salt spray), ASTM B380 (Corrodkote), ISO 9227 and DIN 50021.
- Heavy-duty sample rack: Three layers with corrosion-resistant rods, V-shaped glass-fibre brackets (20° ± 5°) and a mesh base plate for large parts. Uniform load capacity of more than 200 kg.
- Interval fog for cyclic testing: Program spray and pause periods of up to 99 h 59 min each, or run continuous fog up to 999.9 hours for long NSS approvals.
- Accurate CASS temperatures: Working room reaches 50 °C and the saturated air barrel reaches 63 °C in under 45 minutes each, with temperature stability of ≤ ±0.5 °C.
- No nozzle clogging on long runs: A peristaltic pump feeds salt solution from an external large tank, avoiding siphon-nozzle crystallisation and keeping fog fall-out steady for 1,000-hour tests.
- Programmable TEMI 880 touch screen: 7-inch 800 × 480 colour display with program, fixed-value and timed start/stop modes, so tests start and stop without an operator present.
- Traceable test records: Logs set values, measured values and time for up to 360 days at a 2-minute interval. Transfer programs and data by USB, or network up to 16 chambers over RS232 for central monitoring.
FAQs
Which salt spray standards do automotive OEMs usually specify?
ASTM B117 and ISO 9227 are the most common. Decorative chrome and nickel plating often need CASS to ASTM B368, and many OEMs add cyclic tests based on ASTM G85. Always check your customer’s own specification.
How long are salt spray tests for automotive fasteners?
It depends on the coating. Plain zinc plating is often specified at 72–96 hours to white rust, while zinc-nickel and zinc-flake coatings can require 720 hours or more to red rust.
Can the chamber hold heavy components like brackets and castings?
Yes. The mesh plate on the lower rack layer takes large parts, and the rack is rated for more than 200 kg of uniformly distributed load.
Does the chamber support cyclic corrosion testing?
The interval fog mode runs programmed spray and pause cycles of up to 99 h 59 min each, which covers intermittent tests such as those in ASTM G85. Full cyclic tests that also need controlled humidity and drying steps require a dedicated cyclic corrosion chamber.
Can I get test data for PPAP and audit files?
Yes. The controller stores up to 360 days of temperature and test data, which you can export by USB or view on a PC through the RS232 link.
